On Saturday, March 8, the 2nd Seiyuu Awards were handed out in Akihabara.

One of the awards went to FURUYA Touru [古谷徹] (original Pegasus Seiya): the Kei Tomiyama Award which goes to the person who has done their best to promote the job of the voice actors across different media.

I wonder how famous of a Seiyuu Furuya is in Japan.

i didn't have a clue about this but its good to hear about now. i didn't think that he was popular in japan either. (though its hard to say since i live in america.)
