Which is your favourite arc?

Which is your favourite animated-arc?

- Sanctuary: from the beginning of the Galaxian War to the battles at the twelve Temples of the Zodiac!

- Asgard: the northern myth of legendary God Warriors

- Poseidon: a short but intense adventure under the sea

- Hades: the Sacred War against the God of Hell

(If you want, we could divide the Sanctuary arc in two parts (from issue 1 to 40, and from 41 to 73), and the Hades arc in three (Hades Sanctuary, Hades Hell, and Hades Elysium), but I think it should be better to judge them entirely!)

Let's talk about them!
Scorpius92

well, my favorite serial is surely the sanctuary, especially for the 12 temples of the zodiac
Shiryu

Small thing: the best word is "arc". Serial has a slightly different meaning

I had to decide between Sanctuary and Asgard, and in the end voted the former becuase it's a longer story, with a more balanced plot (especially in the pre-Twelve Temples part) and a generally better flow. Also, it's difficult to beat the Twelve Temples arc with the battles against the Gold Saints and the sacrifices of the main characters.

Of Asgard I like the characterizations of the God Warriors, the references to the northen mythology, the settings and the OST, but it should have had a longer building up arc instead of just one episode.

Third is Hades, which has a lot of ups and downs and feels quite rushed at times.

Last is Poseidon. The battles aren't too bad, but that', and hte bronze wearing the Gold Cloths are the only thing worth saving IMO.
Wyvern no Rhadamanthys

I voted for the sanctuary........imo the best arc of the whole story......firstly I think characters are more interesting(and maybe stronger),secondly because it seems to be a struggle between brothers......and of course..... armors in the sanctuary arc are much more better than armors in other arcs.....or am I wrong????

Thanks! I've just edited!

This is my personal chart:
1) Sanctuary, especially the fights at the Twelve Temples! But I also love the first issues, with the fights against Silver and Bronze Saints, where we can see Pegasus and the other Saints becoming friends, and starting to trust each other!

2) Asgard: beautiful. Everything is beautiful, especially the northern scenario, the God Warriors' stories, their Cloth, some fights, Siegfried, the music..

3) Hades: there are different new factors, such as the supporting role of the Gold Saints. But some actions are too fast. And the animated version for the Meikai is bad.

4) Poseidon: I like the battles, especially those against Scylla and Krishna. But the Marin Generals are not interesting, are featureless.

Love at the Big Temple!

I don't like to copy the other but I prefere Sanctuary too. Specially the fight at the twelve house. The opponents are the best, the cloth are very beautiful, and the battle are amazing!

Last, remember the "s" in the end if the words are plural
Wyvern no Rhadamanthys

everybody voted for the sanctuary.....no doubt it is the best act....but don't forget the importance of hades....of course the meikai chapter is badly done, but i think it is the most important act of the story?do you agree?
Shiryu

I think it was planned to be the most important arc of the story (for example when Mu says that the previous battles against Saga and Poseidon were nothing in comparison) but the result fell short due to a number of reasons. The good ideas introduced in the Hades Sanctuary arc are quickly forgotten by the time the Hades Inferno arc begins
Wyvern no Rhadamanthys

i think it should have been done better.....for example kanon, dohko and shaka don't do anything important(maybe kanon is the only one who fight seriously)....Mu says that this time only gold saint have to fight but all in all they defeat a small amount of spectres....why in your opinion kuru did such a choice?hades arc could be the best arc.....
Shiryu

I think he bit more than he could chew and struggled to keep up with a larger than usual number of characters... 108 is a huge number of enemies, so he had to downpower a lot of them (too many in my opinion) and 8 heroes are a bit too many as well. Also, the Gold Saints are tricky to use because the majority of fans simply doesn't want to see them losing a fight. You can see that even in the forum here they are considered nearly unbeatable by most members.

To make up for this, Kuru made it so that they only lost against other Gold Saints (Hades Sanctuary), against more than one powerful enemy (Kanon vs the 3 Kyotos) or under extremely adverse circumstances (the barrier, Kanon without his cloth etc). He wasn't brave enough to make them lose fair and square.
However, there is a limit to the number of tricks one can come up with, so he didn't show much of Shaka and Doko, focusing only on Kanon, who hadn't done much in the Hades Sanctuary arc. Problem is, Kanon ended up being overused at that point...

So basically I think the reasons for the failing of the Hades-Inferno was that there were too many characters around for Kuru to coordinate properly.

Then, once he started Elysion, Shueisha decided it was time to stop StS due to falling sales and he had to rush to finish it all.
Wyvern no Rhadamanthys

i think the problem is that kuru had to finish his work too fastly......he should have made better the inferno chapter....for example he could:
make it longer(the story is not boring so he could create more and more battles)
make spectres stronger....the difference between flegias or lune and the 3 kyotos is too large
use the gold saint as "spectres killer"such as kanon.I think people would like to see gold saints fighting and beating spectres
but most of all he should have talked about spectres. We know everything about Thor, megres and mime in the asgard arc but we don't know anything about rhadamanthis(which is one of the best done character of the whole story)

I will have to go with Sanctuary here as well, with Hades on second place followed by Poseidon. Asgard last due to being too repetitive >.<, ugly armors, and it just doesn't have the feeling of something Norse =/

But yeah, Sanctuary since that's were all the Saints are x3

I absolutely have to quote this post! You rock man, I totally agree with you! Amici Your ranking perfectly match with mine Needless to say, when I talk about "Hades arc" I mean the first 13 OAV's Meikai and Elysion, they simply don't exist (well, at least I try repeating myself that they don't exist, hoping it would become true... )

Well, Asgard is not repetitive! Poseidon is repetive, but this could be said of the entire saga of Saint Seiya, because the "clichč" often are the same! Instead in Asgard, the armors are original, wonderful to see, and well-thought, with corrispondences with characters of the northern mythology! (For exemple, Fenrir, Sleipnir, the dragons, the huge snake Mišgaršsormr); the battles are differents, and the characters are well-studied, with good psychologic-introspection (more than a lot of Saints, and more than the Marin Generals or Spectre). I think Asgard is one of the best saga, where you can find action and deep emotions, and it has been well programmed! It's a saga of feelings!
Wyvern no Rhadamanthys

well.....maybe you're right.....the asgard arc is a little too repetitive....but you can't say that armors are ugly!!!!!!artax's cloth is simply beautiful(maybe the others lack some details, for example orion's cloth has none of them).....characters'history is well explained and the story works.....nothing to say about asgard...I think it is better than poseidon...here it seems like kurumada had no ideas to end the story....it seems like he changed his mind three or four times before deciding how to end this arc....furthermore characters are not so original(krisaore is shaka, kanon is saga, sirya is mime, baian is eris).....
Shiryu

Heretics   Asgard is a great saga, and the cloths are among the most beautiful seen in StS!

The thing is, we don't know anything of the past of characters like Scorpio Milo, Aldebaran, Deathmask, Camus, Aphrodite etc, and we know very little of Mu, Shaka and Shura, and yet we (almost) all love the Golds and despise the Specters. I suppose it's because they don't have the same magnetic personalities...
Wyvern no Rhadamanthys

that's why i decided to rewrite the meikai.....
for example i like very much valentine....but seiya beats him too quickly in my opinion.there is no time to learn about him....
pancho

overcool

I think Wyvern deserves a point here. Hades-arc is underestimated mostly 'cause of its freshness. Mu, Shaka, Dohko and Kanon (unknown people, yeah! ) made my dream come true fighting on the front line. Though I applaud the Icy Age of Asgard, how could I snipe at those infernal chapters (more than I do actually ) huh? That said, I have to vote for the superclassics

@ Tetsu Aero: welcome by the overcoming pancho
Shiryu

OT: Pancho, your english is really good! It sounds like real english and not textbook one
pancho

bud wiser

OT: Thanks a lot, but your statement's far from my feeling. I'm just a wise guy, you know
Wyvern no Rhadamanthys

IMO the meikai should have been longer!!!!!there's no space for characters such as shiryu or hyoga......we can call it "seiya and shun in hell!!!"
pancho

the sixth element

May be you mean Seiya and Shun what the hell?

My take: Sanctuary (=ground) no change; Asgard (=ice) more Hyoga; Poseidon (=water) more Shiryu; Hades (=fire) more Ikki, therefore more Shun is ok; Tenkai (=air) dunno... more Shadir anyone?
Hynata

Of course the best serial is the Sanctuary.
It's amazing to see all Gold Saint fighting.
Also I like very much the meeting and the fight between Dok and Sion !
Very Very cool!
blackrose22

i like the hades arc because it shows the goldies fighting the enemy and not other saints. also because they fight 3 gods not 1 which is kinda cool.
